CloudCamp RTP 8/6/11

Welcome to the CloudCamp RTP session board where attendees (you) submit topics you want discussed at CloudCamp. The theme for this CloudCamp is all-things-cloud such as Scaling, private cloud vs. public cloud, security, Big Data, DevOps, where to get started, technical hurdles & non-technical hurdles

Browse ideas submitted by other attendees, propose new topics and vote on the topics that interest you the most. The top 3 ideas will automatically be approved for CloudCamp. The rest of the topics will be voted upon at the beginning of CloudCamp. GET STARTED!

Also: Do you want to give a 5 minute lightening talk? Let us know and we’ll put you in touch with Robert Petrusz (CloudCamp RTP organizer) to schedule these short-form talks.

Thank you!

Proposed Sessions for CloudCamp RTP

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

            • Image and Configuration Management in the Cloud

This discussion would be focused on strategies for managing images and instance configurations in a cloud. For example:

Do you prefer minimizing the number of different base images, and installing / configuring a "personality" for each instance based at launch time on instance data, or do you create more specialized images to reduce run-time configuration time?

Which tools have you found most useful for configuration management (Puppet, Chef, RightScale, StarCluster, etc.)?

What could cloud providers be doing to make all of this easier?
