  1. Egypt-wide Intranet Mesh Network

Modify commonly-available internet USB dongles to create an intranet mesh network that would help maintain connectivity should the internet be shut down – as well as increase the network connectivity of underserved, or more network poor regions of the country (increase the size of the periphery). A sufficiently wide intranet network would increase opportunities for members of the network to access any remaining connections to the outside world

        • A wiki on the Egyptian election candidates, networking their prior positions, views, connections

An informational resource for the newly-empowered electorate of Egypt as they vote in the upcoming parliamentary elections. It would aim to display the field of candidates as a network, with edges between candidates and: their prior offices, their views, their relationships with other candidates, etc. As a wiki, it would be collaboratively built, while also maintaining quality control by referencing sources. Its goal would be to ensure that politics, in all its complexity and history, never escapes the scrutiny of the Egyptian people.

                        • Create virtual space that offers credit for people to take steps in understanding each other

By hearing real-life stories, people can identify and critically analyze the stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination faced by people who are considered outside social norms. The learning goals of this assignment are to enhance students' critical thinking, cultural competency, and attitudes towards groups of difference .Web-based video allows for the interview relationship. The interviews focus on experiences of: Stereotypes, prejudice, or discrimination that interviewees may have encountered in their life or Intergroup dynamics,
Identification of how their characteristic of "difference" had affected the way others perceived and treated them and how they felt about themselves.

For anything that could be improved. Different layers for e.g. corruption, bad policy, dumb laws, etc., but also really basic community improvements like trash that needs picking up, curbs that need painting, pot-holes that need filling, etc. Crucially, the fixing should also be crowd-sourced, and crowd-funded, so Egypt supporters all around the world can both invest in Egypt's future and contribute to local employment.

                            • A "private Facebook" platform for Egyptian activists

Our company is currently developing a "private Facebook" platform.

A private Facebook platform is where all users' data reside on the users' own local PCs, and all communications and file transfers between trusted users are carried out directly from your PC to your trusted user's PC without going through any intermediary server. Basically, it melds the P2P infrastructure of Skype with the social networking features of Facebook.

Since Facebook is banned in countries like China that have strong censorship policies, this private Facebook platform would be an effective way to circumvent the ban, because the platform uses no central servers…

Regardless of available technology, what would be the absolute ideal workflow for crowdsourcing a constitution?

Would it be a 1-month process or a 6-month process? Should it be with all citizens, a random and representative sample of citizens, or at least one iteration/phase with each group?

What is necessary for the process to be seen as legitimate by a critical mass of Egyptians? What could go wrong? What is the average Egyptian capable of contributing?

                                    • Charity Website

In post-revolution Egypt, feelings of frustration and oppression have been ousted by feelings of hope and inspiration. Energy, enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility and citizenship have driven people to the streets in efforts to make their country a better and more beautiful place to live.

Many different organizations some old and some new have emerged providing food, financial help, literacy programs, teaching skills to help the unemployed etc. And some even forming political parties. Unfortunately, these programs aren't getting enough publicity. So the idea came to make a website with a searchable database of volunteer and donation opportunities.

                                        • Central repository for sharing/recycling goods/services

Egypt has a re-use and recycling culture. This app would link to a resource to share goods or services, swap, etc. Like CraigsList and Bartering.
